All of the people in a street in my town have special garages. Each claims to have an invisible fire breathing dragon inside. Only one can be correct as there can only be one dragon. However, it may be that there is no dragon at all as the home owners can’t see or interact with the dragon in any way. They send messages to the dragon and sometimes their wishes are granted. But only sometimes.
The big problem is this: You have absolutely no way to tell if the dragon is in one garage or another's. Or even if he exists at all. In fact if you choose the wrong garage and there really is a dragon, then home owner of the real dragon will torture you for eternity. Some people are born into dragon believing families and never doubt that their garage is the right one, but it is just an accident of their birth as the people down the street make exactly the same claims and have exactly the same 'evidence'.
How can you tell if you have made the right choice? You can't. Every claim you make to revelation, to scripture or to answered requests can and is made by other people looking at other garages.
