A PM conversation I had moments ago with a fellow who thought my grammar could use some improvement:
Paul Hannah When I write posts on FB I write in a colloquial form, a form that reflects the casual nature of the conversations. Writing my stories and letters I write, as I was trained, in correct, formal, English.
HIM: Yeah.
Paul Hannah Do you have any understanding of the glass house you live in?
i.e. You wrote:
" ... . Its weird, I find myself correcting peoples grammar since Ive been in English class, when half the time I dont use it myself LOLOL."
Paul Hannah An ellipsis (...) indicates something missing and should not be used in this way. It adds nothing to your sentence. Contractions such as 'Its' should not be used in formal English. When you indicate possession, as in "peoples" an apostrophe is required. It should be ' people's '. Contractions, if you must use them, need apostrophes too. "Ive" becomes 'I've' and "dont" becomes 'don't'. Your paragraph would also have been clearer if you added the comma after 'time'.
Correcting grammar is a literary minefield, if you are in the position of still attending English class, you may not yet be qualified to do so. I would in this and future cases, advise caution, others may not be as polite as I.
