Fatherhood

If kids have a Dad who is:
1. Around. Just being there and available is something kids love.
2. Capable of giving a damn. Caring about their problems and sharing their concerns is much of what they need.
3. Understanding. The remote and distant father went out in the sixties and will hopefully never return.
4. Sharing and contributing. Someone who does more than slap a paycheck on the table, someone who adds to a child’s experience and knowledge.
5. Responsible. Someone who won’t hide behind drugs and alcohol. Someone who takes responsibility for the situation and faces it with courage and strength.

Any abrogation of these qualities and the man is just a sperm donor.
